RED DOT AUCTION for Chuck Jones

What exactly is the RED DOT AUCTION you ask? No, it has nothing to do with being dermatologically challenged or that eerie effect you get within eyes during some flash photography but rather it is an annual event put on by the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity. When a work of art is sold in a gallery during an event, a "red dot" is placed next to the piece to let others know it is spoken for.

More than 60 artists from around the world, were asked to contribute an original piece starting with a 12 inch stretched canvas that was sent to each of us to embellish. There will be traditional acrylic and oil besides some mixed media and even photos that will be attached to the canvas selections. You'll be able to choose from familiar but wonderfully executed scenes from Chuck's famous films or even original setups based on his creations.

Over 60 pieces of artwork to pick from, so come join us!
I went for something original myself but may live to regret it if no one understands the piece. Oh well, too late to worry now, I already washed my brushes and put the caps back on the paint tubes. Now here is the kicker, no artist will have signed their piece, at least not on the front where it can be identified. This adds an air of mystery to the sale. Bidding starts at $100 and rises in $50 increments as the bidding increases offering the opportunity to own a piece that may usually sell for thousands, for quite a bit less. If you're up for re-tiling the bathroom wall, just think how original this will make your renovation if you purchase the entire collection!

Another acme device blows up for Wile E. Coyote
Here is my contribution as a work in progress. By the time this is posted the auction will be over so this way I haven't let the cat out of the bag (Sylvester hates that line). I illustrated the Coyote experiencing another Acme accident that appears to blow him right back through the canvas he's painted on. I used acylic paint on canvas to achieve this effect. It has a very nice 3D effect even though it's just a flat image. All of the artists involved donate their efforts so that 100% of the sales go to aid this marvelous program, heck we even paid the return postage.

The Red Dot Auction is the spring fund-raising event for the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity. Scheduled for Friday, May 11th from 6 to 9 PM at 3321 Hyland Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92626. The event is free to the public and for a great ongoing cause of the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity which is to help re-invigorate the creative spirit through classes, exhibitions, lectures, and film festivals.
